Reality TV Shows Influencing Us?

A lot of people watch reality TV, me included.  What exactly is it that draws us into reality TV. To me it is the drama, stupidity and dumbness of how people act.  People would not watch these shows if they were not interesting. Jersey shore for example, they do stupid stuff whether it’s going to the bar and getting completely hammered. Whether it’s seeing people get punched in the face for being too drunk or even people cheating on their boyfriends/girlfriends. They all have one thing in common. They are asking for trouble, drama and love it. People love watching other people get in to trouble. Society is definitely affected by these reality TV shows. When normal average people see stars acting like idiots and getting away with it, then average people think it is okay for them to act like that. Think about it before jersey shore no one knew about twerking. Since jersey shore everyone talks about twerking, we even have twerking on walls. What is our society coming to since reality TV? We see someone else do and like it, then all of a sudden everyone is doing it. Even Miley Cyrus twerking at the VMAS. Every action in life there is a consequence whether it is good or bad. When a TV star does something bad, and goes to jail for it they end up getting out within the next day or too. When an average person sees these stars act like this, then get away with it, we think it is okay for us to act like that. The difference is we don’t get away with it, they do. Some reality starts are portrayed as people we look up to, but should we really look up to them? ABSOLUTLY NOT! We should not look up to some of these people.
If we look up to anyone who was on reality TV, then it should be someone like Sean Lowe (right picture). He was on a reality TV show called The Bachelor. He was a complete gentlemen, was loved by millions all over the world. He was even a virgin when on the show. I am not saying we should all be virgins but we should all have a little more class for ourselves.  Just because people on reality TV shows are sleeping with tons of girls doesn’t mean we have to. The only reason these people are even famous is because they were on a TV show with a lot of drama. They sure wouldn’t have the money they have now; half of them don’t even have a brain to be in school. Take mike for example,  aka the situation he was  close to 50 years old acting like he was 24, get your act together at that point in your life you should have a good job,  possibly even married with kids. If not you are obviously doing something wrong, which if you saw the show he obviously was. He was always hooking up so multiple girls and the center of drama. A lot of this is not okay, no wonder our generation is so messed up.

  1. I agree that people watch reality TV for the drama. I do, however not as much. It kind of gets repetitive. I also agree with you that reality TV shows is influencing the behaviors of society today. Someone you look up to on TV does something, so people follow in their footsteps and do the same thing, or they try to act a certain way just to try to better their chances of being on reality TV.

  2. I can not stand Jersey Shore, I am glad you wrote about it. Some people may believe it has no impact on society, however I am Italian and get offended when I hear someone talk about Guido or Guidette's. They put the Italian race to shame! So when other teens watch this kind of garbage they may go to school and say something that they heard and it can be construed as a racial slur. Sabrina you hit it right on when you said if "NORMAL" people do some of the things they do on Jersey Shore we would be put in jail with the keys thrown away. If someone thinks drinking so much until they pass out is fun, they seriously have issues. They sure in the hell shouldn't be looked up to as role models.
